Gasconade County R-I Teacher Induction

All teachers new to the Gasconade County R-I School District are required to attend New Teacher Orientation prior to the start of the school year.

The purpose of this learning opportunity is to accomplish the following:

  • Provide new teachers with an overview of the operations of the school district they will teach.
  • Establish email accounts and training through our IT department on how to access various teacher accounts and resources.
  • Provide information from our bookkeeper on insurances, taxes, purchase orders, and a variety of other paperwork.
  • Introduce our professional organizations, administration team, and Board members.
  • Provide an overview of our online curriculum tool, assessment tool(s), and other strategies designed to improve curriculum and instruction practices within each classroom.
  • Provide information about certification requirements.
  • Help new teachers acquire techniques and strategies for student engagement and establishing a culture for teaching and learning.

Mentoring Program

This program is designed to provide teachers an opportunity to work intensely with a mentor for their first two years in the profession.  This program provides support in all aspects of the classroom. During this time, teachers are provided differentiated support in developing their professional learning goals with a mentor and building principal.

Principals are required to monitor and support new teachers through observations and post-conferences, as this is part of the teacher evaluation process.  Principals and the curriculum director meet regularly with new teachers to provide assistance as needed.

Beginning Teacher Assistance Program
Gasconade County R-I School District implements a Beginning Teacher Assistance Program, through EdHub, to assist beginning teachers in fulfilling this Missouri certification requirement. The Beginning Teacher Assistance program provides specific information, practice, and reflection for new teachers. The content of this program addresses classroom management, motivation and cognitive engagement strategies, professional communication, and professional rights and responsibilities.
